  • Preparing for a class tomorrow on social media for journalism majors at the University of Miami. I wonder how many know about or use Twitter #
  • A year ago, financial companies were flying high” -> great interactive graph on the New York Times http://tinyurl.com/6jsbtk #
  • @greglinch I’ll be lecturing in Yves Colon’s class tomorrow: CNJ216 — News Reporting and Writing. #
  • @onajide There’s always one or two in any PR or journalim audience that have heard of Twitter. How long before 5 or more have? #
  • @DerekTut The principal challenge is overcoming people’s expectation of immediate gratification. Happens to all of us. #
  • @kbuczko I know, CNN and Rick Sanchez are driving adoption and recognition. Wonder how that pans out in practice. Will find out tomorrow … #
  • Retweeting @supercres: Paul Krugman just said, referring to Hank Paulson “All your decisions are belong to me” My favorite economist by far. #
  • @DearYvette Actually, Krugman is @supercres’ favorite economist. One of my favorites as well ;) #
  • @greglinch It always surprises me how few people have heard of Twitter and Flickr. It’s not like you need a visa or passport to go online. #
  • @tomob Krugman got a Ph.D in economics from MIT, where he became the Ford International Professor of Economics. Tell me, why do I bother? #
  • @greglinch “There’s so much crap online, you can’t find anything of value. It’s just a waste of time. Bloggers? Give me a break” LOL ;) #
  • @greglinch That comes from numerous conversations I’ve had offline and on. As a rule, it’s easy to disparage what you don’t understand. #
  • @tomob Happens on both sides of the aisle; depends on where you think the truth lies, no pun intended. I don’t find him overly partisan. #
  • @factoryjoe You might find him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Star #
  • @enkerli To build a Twitter timeline, check out Twistory http://twistory.net/ by @tijs #
  • Congrats, @dayngr, on the eMOM — Tatango partnership http://snurl.com/3t070 #
  • That Cuban colada first thing in the morning really did the trick. It’s like rocket fuel. One of the pluses of living in Miami … #
  • Twhirl should enable undo / redo. It’s ridiculous to have to retype stuff. #
  • @enkerli Get in touch with @tijs , he may be able to hook you up. #
  • @DailyMe Good luck, Lisa, sounds like a long day .… ;) #
  • There is nothing new except what is forgotten” –Rose Bertin, on Flickr http://flickr.com/photos/adc/2882595676/ #
  • @stoweboyd Thanks, Stowe #
  • Spoke with Novecento, they’re offering us 50% off drinks after the RefreshMiami meetup tomorrow night ;) #
  • @vicequeenmaria RefreshMiami’s at Yahoo! Hispanic America’s from 7:30 — 9:00pm tomorrow. The first 75 get in. Then, we move to Novecento’s. #
  • Sorry for getting political again (it’s horse race season, though) but I <3 this NYT op-ed http://is.gd/30Nz And no, it’s not liberal … #
  • @josuer Should be a fun night, the best yet, I think. Looking forward to seeing you there. #
  • @MailOurMilitary You’re more than welcome, Trish. Space will be tight tomorrow, so please arrive early if you’re coming. #
  • @lboord Thx. NYT op-ed is “Aaron Sorkin Conjures a Meeting of Obama and Bartlet” You might have to be logged in? http://tinyurl.com/5xheu7 #
  • @aschek Congrats for FayerWayer Brazil! http://www.fayerwayer.com.br/ #
  • Just lectured to a class of college sophomores (journalism majors). No one had heard of Twitter, only one knew of Flickr. None were blogging #
  • @tenamoore Surprising and sad. Change takes time. #
  • @tiburon They’re just sophomores and the only social media they use is Facebook and YouTube. They’d like to work in a media outlet. #
  • @DaveMurr I won’t name the school although some will know. There are a host of reasons why change takes so long. Frustrating, though. #
  • @agustarz Little has changed in the last year, I guess. #
  • @ShriNagesh Then again, we’re not really normal, are we? LOL ;) #
  • @BluButterfly You mean FayerWayer? hehe :D #
  • @amachina What an incredible story, I hadn’t seen that! Thanks for sharing http://twurl.nl/8qqqrg #
  • @tomob That’s great, Tom. By b-school you mean MBAs, not undergrads, right? A school on the West coast or Northeast perhaps? #
  • @digitalfemme Seems digital natives are not necessarily early adopters. Weird, huh? #
  • @HerMedia Whenever I speak in public, I first ask how many have heard of Twitter and Flickr. Never mind FriendFeed. Not many do. #
  • @ShriNagesh It’s all a matter of perspective … I feel very normal :) #
  • @tiburon I know, I told them their future employers will be turning to them with questions about these and other social platforms. #
  • @6oclockvintage They struck me as very much the collegiate norm. Also, they use Facebook daily. They’re not unconnected. #
  • @tomob Maybe older age as MBAs + that one of them is Northwestern makes a difference. These were just sophomores. Still surprising, though. #
  • @tiburon Definitely! I’m very much looking forward to it. I’ll be arriving on Thursday. Still need a hotel, though. #
  • @6oclockvintage That might be it. A big question for them is about creating an online identity and the implications for employment. #
  • @ShriNagesh Great quote, I subscribe to that. Maybe too much at times ;) #
  • @davidburn They’re definitely on Facebook, I didn’t ask about MySpace. They were interested in @skydiver’s http://www.helpareporter.com/ #
  • Oh wow, Automattic acquired Intense Debate! Nice! #
  • @6oclockvintage I mentioned as much, saying best way to protect your identity is to become the authority on your own identity. #
  • @tomob I agree with that. The term digital natives is prone to mislead; it’s not all encompassing. I’ll check out @geoffliving’s post, thx #
  • @engineerdj Jorge, what are you referring to? #
  • Taking a break to drive home now in an attemp to avoid the rush hour, since it’s raining here. Probably wishful thinking. #
  • @DearYvette Definitely, but they’re not my students and this was just one lecture. I’ll be guest lecturing a few more times this semester #
  • @engineerdj Automattic makes WordPress and Intense Debate makes commenting systems. Nice marriage, no? It’s perfect. #
  • @mchamberlin Matthew, you’ve asked your friends, right? A surprising number of people have not heard of Flickr, never mind Twitter #
  • @DaveMurr From my experience, digital immigrants trump digital natives in the use of social media. Maturity and life experience count more. #
  • @sfbness My lips are sealed :) #
  • @mchamberlin The services we use so passionately are not necessarily the ones they will use … #
