Live blogging LeWeb: Jason Goldman of Twitter interviewed by MG Siegler

by Alex. Average Reading Time: about a minute.

TechCrunch writer MG Siegler interviews Jason Goldman, VP Product Design, Twitter.

The biggest highlight is that Jason Goldman announced he’s moving on from Twitter, pursuant to a conversation about how the product needs to change — seemed like a good time for a transition. Jason was employee number 9 and has seen the company grow to over 300 people. He’ll stay on in an advisory role.

Other points discussed:

Twitter launched integrations with Instagram, Slideshare, and others — media appears in the details pane on the right.

The right pane can be a place where innovation happens as developers figure out how to make use of it.

They are bringing the promoted tweets to third parties. The first test has happened with Hootsuite. Part of the model is sharing revenues on promoted tweets.

We also want to pursue vertical content integrations, for example for sports.”

We also want to support developers building stuff that make certain content look great, and that’s another area where we’ll see more innovation.”

The weakest design choice is “I don’t know what the right answer is, so I’ll introduce options for both.”

Regarding Google and what they’re doing with social, “it’s not fair to judge a product team based on stuff that’s been leaker. We have to wait for launch. But there are amazing folks there and I’m sure they’ll do interesting stuff.”

The number one focus in Twitter is to create a great consumption experience for people, to better deal with all the information.
