Yves Behar is perhaps best know for his work with OLPC and with the Jawbone.

Good design accelerates the adoption of ideas. Essentially, a startup is an idea. Startup ideas need design thinking. You need to develop moments of sharing into an idea. Apple has opened the world wide for designers and given them a lot of credibility. In the 90’s, Apple was seen as a personal exercise, and ego project. But then Apple proved they could captivate the world with their products.

Innovation and design takes a different perspective. If you had put 100 hoteliers in a room for a week, they would not have come up with the idea for AirBnB.

A product is a 360 degree experience. Creating and fixing and improving are essential parts of the product.

Design thinking extends into the digital space as well.

Design thinking is here to stay. We are moving away from mass industrialization and into mass individualization. This does not mean less products are going to be made or that less objects will be needed, but now they will be made with people’s preferences and individual needs. This has implications on how we adapt production and distribution to the new mass individualization.

People want to acquire things that are made just for them, but this does not mean people will have a machine in their garage that will print 3D objects for them.

The best design experiences today in the tech space are being made by Herman Miller and Vitra, because everything is becoming more and more tech. Also Path is delivering a great virtual product.
